FAQ’s

— Is your Nursery program a 3-K for All? Do you offer a half-day option?

Yes! The New York City DOE’s free 3-K for All program has been implemented in our school district. Our Nursery, Pre-K, and Kindergarten programs are all full-day schedules, from 8:00am - 2:30pm.

— Do you follow the public school calendar?

Our calendar is very close to the one used by the NYC public school system, but there are some variations. For instance, our winter and spring break holidays are usually a day or two longer than those of the public schools. See our Calendar page for a full schedule of our holiday closings.

— How are students assessed?

For our Pre-K and Kindergarten students, our teachers use an authentic assessment tool called Teaching Strategies Gold to gather information and evaluate their progress in such areas as math, literacy, science, and social studies (Pre-K students are also assessed on their social and physical development). We hold parent-teacher meetings three times a year to discuss students’ progress.

— How can parents get involved in the school?

Parents are an important part of our teaching team! We invite parents to talk to their child’s teacher about ways they can help in the classroom (for instance, reading to the class during meeting time). We also have special events that involve family participation, such as our cultural sharing days, Scholastic Book Fairs, and Family Art Nights.

— Do you offer a bus service?

Unfortunately, for insurance reasons, we cannot offer bus pickup for students. However, we are convenient to the Q11, Q21 and Q38 bus lines. We also have a large parking lot for families who drive.

— Is lunch provided?

We offer a free hot lunch option, through Regina Caters service company. They provide a variety of healthy meals with lean proteins (no pork or fish), vegetables, and whole grains. You may also opt to send in a lunch with your child; no chips or candy, please.

— Are you a nut-free school?

Although we are not a nut-free school, we make every effort to ensure the safety of students who have food allergies of any sort. All of our staff are certified in first aid, CPR, and Epi-Pen use. If you have any concerns, please feel free to speak to Ms. Vanessa or Mrs. Debbie.

— My child isn’t yet toilet-trained. Can children wear pull-ups to school?

Like most schools, we have a “no-touch” policy for children 3 and older, so teachers are not permitted to wipe children or change pull-ups. We ask that students be able to use the toilet independently and put on their own change of clothes in case of accidents. For major soiling accidents, parents are asked to come attend to their child. If your child isn’t yet out of pull-ups, this is a great opportunity to work on toilet training before school.
